CONDITIONS OF RENTAL (International  Travellers)
GENERAL CONDITIONS OF HIRE APPLICABLE TO SOUTH AFRICA, LESOTHO AND SWAZILAND
MINIMUM RENTAL AGE
23 Years.
21 Years if in possession of a Diners or American Express Credit Card.
25 Years in Lesotho

SPECIAL EQUIPMENT
Paraplegic hand controls are available (for certain models only) at no extra cost in Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban, Port Elizabeth, Skukuza, and Pretoria. Vehicles must be returned to one of the above stations, 72 hour advance reservations essential. Baby seats and roof racks are also available (for certain models only) from most branches at R75 per rental.
2 days advance notice required on reservation.
OVERBORDER RENTALS
Vehicles may be taken into Zimbabwe & Mozambique under the following circumstances:
Prior application is made 72 hours in advance with reservation details and dates of entry into and exit from Zimbabwe & Mozambique.

Vehicles for use in Zimbabwe & Mozambique may only be rented from Johannesburg/Pretoria and must be returned to South Africa

No one way rentals to Zimbabwe & Mozambique are allowed. Rentals may be terminated in Namibia & Botswana at the applicable one way rental charges.

In addition to the CDW/TLW included in the rates, a further vehicle insurance charge will apply.

Groups P/A/B/C = R160-00 per day
Groups D and higher = R210-00 per day
= Minimum charge 5 days

Should you require a breakdown or repair service whilst travelling in Zimbabwe or Mozambique, assistance will be rendered as quickly as possible. However, due to distances, delays in response may be experienced.

If vehicles are taken into Zimbabwe & Mozambique without prior notice and payment of the additional insurance, customers will be liable for the full cost of any accident, damage or theft, and any third party or passenger liability claims.

Under no circumstances may vehicles be taken into:
 Zambia
Angola
Malawi

Vehicles may enter:
Namibia
Botswana
Swaziland
Lesotho

With One Way Overborder Rental Charges:

Namibia = R1600-00
Botswana = R1100-00
Swaziland & Lesotho = R300-00 and vice versa

 
INSURANCE’S
Rates include limited coverage of passenger liability and third party motor liability. Such cover being subject to the terms and conditions of the Avis policy and insurance as is customary in South Africa / Swaziland / Lesotho. Cover for loss by fire is also included together with cover for damage to the rented vehicle, excluding the applicable responsibility, but may not include loss or damage through incidents of civil unrest. Insurance does not cover personal property.

THESE AMOUNTS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE WITHOUT NOTICE

The responsibilities as per the rate schedule are applicable while travelling in South Africa, Lesotho and Swaziland. If vehicles rented in South Africa with Standard or Super cover are taken into Namibia or Botswana, then the responsibilities applicable will be those of the country in which the accident / theft occurs.
Personal Accident Insurance
Personal Accident Insurance covers the driver as well as other passengers for accidental bodily injury while driving, riding in, getting into or out of the rented vehicle. Coverage is in effect up to "return date" indicated on the rental agreement or any rental company approved extension.
For International Clients
The insurance will apply to persons up to the age of 75 years. The death benefit in respect of persons under 15 years of age shall be limited to R20 000-00.

Benefit: R200 000-00 divided equally among the occupants.
Medical Expense: R50 000-00 per occupant.

Automatic inclusion of the Automobile Association Mayday roadside and medical emergency services.
DELIVERY AND COLLECTION CHARGES
A delivery and collection fee will be charged within a 20km radius of the closest Avis office:

R60 - During office hours
R120 - After Hours, Public Holidays and Weekends

Thereafter, on quotation for deliveries in excess of 20kms.

RATES
Rates are only valid for clients who carry a valid international Passport.

 
CANCELLATIONS
There are no cancellation fees if rentals are cancelled before the rental date.

Should a reservation not be cancelled, a fee equivalent to one day’s rental charges will be applied.
CALCULATION OF RATES
Daily rates are calculated strictly in 24-hour cycles from the time of pick up to the time of drop off. Should a vehicle be returned late an extra day would be charged. Minimum rental period is 1 day.

 
FREE MOBILE PHONE
Mobile phones are available to all international renters and are subject to availability at the time of the booking. There is an additional insurance charge of R 5-75 per day and calls are charged at R 2-36 per unit (minimum 2 units) and these are payable by the renter.

Should this service be required please advise the following information at the time of the booking:

  • Credit Card number, including the CVV (Last 3 Digits on reverse of Credit Card) number and expiry date.
  • Pre-assigned number required.
  • Your home address and telephone number overseas.
ONE-WAY RENTALS
There are one way rental charges between the following locations within South Africa.
These one way rental charges must be paid to us directly by the customers at the time of rental.
