INTRODUCTION

Gonubie BackPackers
We are about 10m from the high tide mark, overlooking Black Rock, a popular surfing spot, and are bordered by the Marine Reserve and Bird Sanctuary. You can fall asleep to the rhythmic sound of the ocean, and can see passing ships, dolphins and whales from most rooms.

The house is sheltered from local winds and is one of the oldest in the area, built from seashells in some areas and even has its own dungeon.

The BackPackers is run by 4 sisters who promise to treat you like one of the family.

You can satisfy any creative urges with their paints, pottery wheel and art studio, making whatever dreamy creations take your fancy.

You can also chill out at the pool and braai area, and pig out on their free chocolate cake on Sundays.

On hot summer evenings, just before sunset, the swallows from surrounding areas congregate above the house, blackening the sky and making a terrific noise as they bid each other good night.

They also have regular drumming circles.

Bikes are available for hire, and cycling tours and trails can be arranged up the Wild Coast.

The house is close to pubs and restaurants.

Pets are welcome.

Meals are available.

Gonubie
In the heart of Gonubie lies 8 ha of Gonubie Nature Reserve comprising of a series of small natural vleis.

The Reserve is home to some of the rarest indigenous flora of the Eastern Cape and is of special interest to bird lovers with over 130 bird species.
