INTRODUCTION

WELCOME TO AFRICAN LODGE, Cape Town's unique new travellers accommodation from only R65 per person per night!

AFRICAN TRAIN LODGE is a budget accommodation and entertainment establishment, situated in the city centre of Cape Town, South Africa. It consists of 10 vintage railway coaches that have been shunted into place, five on each side of a long platform – the old Monument Station at Cape Town Station. The coaches are still on the tracks and the platform has not been altered, but an incredible lodge has been built around these coaches and platform.

Hear the traditional sounds of the large Steam Engines as they depart and arrive next door. See the beauty of Cape Town’s Table Mountain from the pool deck or the hustle and bustle of the railway junction at the main station. Feel the cool and refreshing waters of the pool or the warmth of the blankets in your compartment at night.

Smell the aromas of fresh coffee or cappuccino at the coffee shop.

Coaches are original, circa. 1950, and completed their service with the Rhodesian Railways. They are now fully revamped.

OUR ACCOMMODATION

Accommodation is in 2- and 4-berth compartments (single bed) and brand new bathroom facilities have been built behind and separate from the coaches. We have included ‘necessities’ such as three television lounges, a swimming pool, bbq area and pool table.

Our pride and joy is our X-pres Café & Bar – a full restaurant in two coaches and on the platform, consisting of dining car, bar car and central coffee shop. The X-pres is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and is a popular spot for sundowner drinks and business luncheons. Other facilities at Train Lodge include a Travel Centre, Coffee Lounge and Internet Café.

What should you expect when walking into the Lodge? A Train Station, complete with sounds, atmosphere and look of an original Railway Station – expect a relaxed and warm environment where you are able to relax and let your senses do a little travelling of their own. TRANSPORT SERVICES

We are able to organize Airport Transfers, City Shuttles, Restaurant Transfers etc. 24 hours a day. We are also able to organise transfers for any size group, including 100 or more. We are also able to arrange car hire, or click here for a flight booking.

INTERNET SERVICES

Internet and Communication services are offered at African Train Lodge at competitive rates. Computer terminals are available for internet access, e-mail services, printing and photocopying.

TRAVEL CENTRE

African Train Lodge is proud to present a wide range of travel services, including the arrangement of tours, transfers, transport bookings and travel advice. We have a fully equipped travel desk that can arrange fun and exciting daytrips to Table Mountain, Robben Island, Cape Point, the Winelands, or simply a leisurely day to the beach.. We are also closely affiliated with overland and adventure companies, and would love to arrange a trip for you to the Kenyan bush, or perhaps a shark cage dive..

The relaxed ambience and railway setting exude the X-Press Cafe and restaurant charm. Enticing aromas waft from the kitchen where classic yet tasty food are prepared for every occasion. While you decide to order, why not sip on a cold beverage or one of our many cocktails we have to offer. Try our own special Thai Chicken salad or carefully grilled steak with our own homemade mushroom or cheese sauce. Everything is on offer from a well presented starter to the sweetest of desserts on our new a la carte menu.

X-Press cafe and bar also offers a wide variety of well known wines, from the not so spiffy Tassies through to the wine connoisseurs favorite and many more! Why not utilize this unique new venue for your next birthday party or year end function?

We can provide all meals for groups visiting our lodge to fit their budget. Contact Casper or Rudi at the Lodge for any bookings you would like to make.

ROOMS
All our rooms are 2 or 4 Berth Train compartments(Bunked Single Beds) We have 8 of the 2-Berth Rooms and 48 of the 4-Berth Rooms. This gives African Train Lodge a total of 208 beds.
